Readings that expire when a grid is redrawn

Four free-tier values rest on the absence of a feature line from one column of a grid. A redesign of the page destroys that evidence, so those readings have to be redone rather than merely re-confirmed. As of 2026-09-22.

1Two kinds of maintenance, and why the difference matters

Re-confirming a value means opening the page and checking a sentence is still there. Redoing a reading means reconstructing an argument from a layout: which columns exist, which line sits against which of them, whether the grid is cumulative, whether an icon is carrying meaning the text does not.

Four of the free-tier values on this register need the second kind of work every time a vendor redesigns. That is why the evidence class is printed beside every value and in the rail of every reading page: it tells a reader how much of the row depends on the page still looking the way it looked.

2The two layout traps these readings run into

One entry prints the same feature line under all four plans and distinguishes them by a glyph, so the text alone says every plan includes watermark-free download. Another describes each plan as the one below plus additions, so a line named at one tier is inherited upward in silence and its absence above means nothing.

Both are legitimate designs and both invert a naive reading. Anything working from the extracted text of those pages, human or otherwise, gets one of them backwards and the other one's boundary wrong, which is a reason to record the method beside the value rather than only the value.

3What the alternative looks like

Four entries elsewhere on the register state their free-tier behaviour in a sentence, and those readings survive any redesign: the clause is either still printed or visibly gone. One further entry has no free plan at all, so its cell cannot expire because there is nothing to re-read.

None of this grades vendors. A company that publishes a clear grid and no sentence is not being evasive; it is writing a sales document, and sales documents get redrawn. The register's job is to say which of its own values depend on that and to mark them so a reader can discount them accordingly.
